Afforestation Advisory Service

We provide technical advisory services for a range of conservation initiatives from large-scale catchment based projects to smaller community-led initiatives. We have a strong focus on afforestation and sustainable land-use transitions. Our approach moves beyond generic planting models to one that factors in novel, emerging approaches to growing native forests including assisted natural regeneration, transition forestry and utilising seed islands to achieve long-term resilient forests. We don’t use terms like ‘retiring land, instead focusing on ‘repurposing land, meaning we look for ways where afforestation and caring for biodiversity can complement existing land uses.

Project Management

We can take the stress out of complex conservation and afforestation projects by managing all the moving parts from start to finish. With 20 years of experience on the ground, we know what successful projects need.

Whether you are launching a brand-new initiative that protects a taonga species, planting a future native forest, or trying to get a stalled project back on track, we help you figure out the best path forward. We handle the day-to-day logistics, manage relationships, workstreams and budgets, and oversee contractors so everything runs smoothly.

Our strength is bringing stakeholders together. We work face-to-face with a variety of stakeholders including private landowners, mana whenua, local councils, and community volunteers to make sure everyone is aligned, supported, and working toward the same goal; creating a healthy, lasting legacy for the land.

Project Support

With over 20 years of experience working alongside community groups, private landowners, iwi, and councils, we know that getting a project off the ground and maintaining momentum requires a lot of behind-the-scenes work. We are here to help you navigate those hurdles. If you have a great idea for a project but aren't sure how to handle the paperwork or planning, let’s have a chat about how we can help you get it moving.

We can support your project with:

  • Fundraising Strategies: Helping you identify the right grants and write successful funding applications to get your work resourced.

  • Navigating Permits: Guiding you through complex regulatory paperwork, including Department of Conservation (DoC) wildlife and concession permitting processes.

  • Strategic Planning: Working with you to design clear, practical project plans and operational roadmaps that everyone can agree on.

Capability building, mentorship

For over five years, we’ve been running practical training and workshops on everything from afforestation and native plant identification to the basics of forest ecology. Whether developing training units or simply mentoring, our focus is always on growing the next generation of stewardship leaders.

We strongly believe that the best foundation for positive action is truly understanding the ‘why’ behind the work. When people understand this, the actions they take on the land become much more meaningful and successful.

Every community group, landowner, and team is different, so we don't do cookie-cutter courses. Talk to us about designing a tailor-made workshop or training session that fits exactly what your people need.
